Degrees of Freedom of the 3-User Rank-Deficient MIMO Interference Channel

چکیده
We provide the degrees of freedom (DoF) characterization for the 3-user MT×MR multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) interference channel (IC) with rank-deficient channel matrices, where each transmitter is equipped with MT antennas and each receiver with MR antennas, and the interfering channel matrices from each transmitter to the other two receivers are of ranks D1 and D2, respectively. One important intermediate step for both the converse and achievability arguments is to convert the fully-connected rank-deficient channel into an equivalent partially-connected full-rank MIMO-IC by invertible linear transformations. As such, existing techniques developed for full-rank MIMOIC can be incorporated to derive the DoF outer and inner bounds for the rank-deficient case. Our result shows that when the interfering links are weak in terms of the channel ranks, i.e., D1 +D2 ≤ min(MT ,MR), zero forcing is sufficient to achieve the optimal DoF. On the other hand, when D1 +D2 > min(MT ,MR), a combination of zero forcing and interference alignment is in general required for DoF optimality. The DoF characterization obtained in this paper unifies several existing results in the literature.

Degrees of Freedom Region of the MIMO X channel with an Arbitrary Number of Antennas
Abstract— We characterize the total degrees of freedom (DoF) of the full-rank MIMO X channel with arbitrary number of antennas at each node. We elucidate that the existing outer bound is tight for any antenna configuration and provide transmit and receive filter designs that attain this outer bound. The proposed achievable scheme exploits channel extensions in terms of both, symbol and asymme...

In order to gain new insights into MIMO interference networks, the optimality of ∑K k=1Mk/2 (half the cake per user) degrees of freedom is explored for a K-user multiple-input-multipleoutput (MIMO) interference channel where the cross-channels have arbitrary rank constraints, and the k transmitter and receiver are equipped with Mk antennas each. The result consolidates and significantly general...

متن کاملInterference Alignment and the Degrees of Freedom for the 3 User Interference Channel
We explore the degrees of freedom region for the 3 user wireless interference channel with perfect channel knowledge at all nodes. While the best known outerbound for the K user interference channel states that there cannot be more than K/2 degrees of freedom, it has been conjectured that in general the constant interference channel with any number of users has only one degree of freedom. We sh...
